Friends of Culture donates to Saint Lucia Hurricane Relief

New Orleans, LA (January, 2011) - After a devastating hurricane on October, 2010 smashed into Saint Lucia, Friends of Culture worked with its sponsors, supporters, and affiliated Caribbean groups to host a fund raiser on December 18, 2010. The money was given to the Red Cross of Saint Lucia. In January 2011, Friends of Culture was recognized for its effort with a certificate of appreciation.

Passport Renewels for Trinidad and Tobago

New Orleans, LA (August 21, 2010) -- For residents of Trinidad and Tobago, the Consulate General of Trinidad and Tobago is currently working with Friends of Culture in assisting residents of Louisiana with renewing their passports to the new machine-readable passports.

The deadline to sign up is September 17^th, 2010. Contact Marilyn LaForce with names, email addresses, and phone numbers of individuals in need of a new passport. The best way to send the information is with email to president@bayoubacchanal.org or call Marilyn at 504-220-8441.

Further, the Consulate General will be working with Friends of Culture for pre-arranged meetings with State and Government officials of Louisiana for the purpose of promoting trade and investment as well as holding meetings with the boards of education to promote the inclusion of the steel pan in the local school curriculum in the New Orleans’ area.

By authorization of the Consulate General of Trinidad and Tobago, Friends of Culture under the leadership of Marilyn LaForce is the only legal and registered organization in the state of Louisiana to serve the people of the Caribbean community on behalf of Trinidad and Tobago.

Before we all know it, Bayou Bacchanal 2010 will be around the corner. There are so many ways the carnival can improve. Therefore, we enjoy hearing ideas about the festival. Please keep in mind that the organization is still rebuilding with limited funds, but we still like to hear what people want to see. Post it right here! Let it air out.

A special thank you goes to everyone who supported Bayou Bacchanal 2009. This year was a record event in attendance and awareness. We appreciate all of our sponsors, the volunteers, and masqueraders who made the event a success. We could not have had the festival without them. We owe a great deal of gratitude to Councilman Byron Lee of Jefferson Parish who is highly supportive of the Caribbean community and offered a great deal of support this year. We hope everyone had fun, and have made plans to join us again next year.
